Parents apologise to me before their child has walked through the door. He is a lot. She does not listen. He will be the one running. I have taught children for sixteen years and I have not yet met the child who was too much for a taekwondo floor.
Lining up is what they learn, not what they need first
Most parents picture martial arts as rows of children holding still while an instructor talks, and they assume their child could never do that. Here is what actually happens. Most of our students are lining up and waiting their turn within a few weeks of starting. Standing still is not something your child has to be able to do before they walk in. It is one of the first things the class teaches them.
Structure is not the opposite of energy
A high-energy child does not need less movement. They need movement with a rule attached to it. A kick has a target. A stance has a shape you can get wrong. A drill ends when the instructor says it ends. The energy is not the problem to solve, and we do not try to drain it out of them.
What a class actually contains
A class opens with a bow. It is not ceremony for its own sake. It tells the child that this room runs by different rules from the one they just left, and most of them pick that up quickly. After the bow the class comes apart into pieces: a warm-up that lets them run, drills that ask for one thing at a time, a game with a rule inside it, and a close that brings them back to the line they started on.
No single block runs long enough for a restless child to run out of patience. That is deliberate. It is the reason the class works for them rather than in spite of them.
What a session gives a child who cannot sit still
- Short blocks rather than one long stretch of attention.
- Listening taught as a skill of its own, practised the same way a kick is practised.
- A clear signal for when to move and when to stop, repeated every class.
- The same instructor every week, so the expectations do not change on them.
What parents actually report
I want to be careful about what I claim here. When I read through our Google reviews, the word that appears most often is confidence, then respect, then focus. Not one parent wrote that their child stopped being energetic. What they wrote is that the energy started pointing somewhere.

The first class is private
The free intro class is one-to-one, which matters more for this child than for most. There is no group to disrupt and no line to hold. We find out how your child listens, how they move, and how long they last before they need to move again. Then we tell you which class suits them.
Tell us before you come
If your child has a diagnosis, or a trigger, or a word that helps them settle, say so at the intro class. It is not something we need for a file. It is something that changes how the first five minutes go, and the first five minutes decide most of it.
What we do not claim
Taekwondo is not a treatment. If you are working with your doctor or your child's school about attention, keep doing that, and we are glad to work alongside it. What we offer is thirty or forty minutes at a time where moving is the point and listening is the skill being practised.
Frequently asked questions
My child has been asked to leave other activities. Will you take them?
Come and talk to us. The free intro class is private, so we can meet your child without a group around them and give you an honest answer about which class fits.
Do you group children by age or by ability?
By age first. U-Star is ages 4 to 5 and U-Kids is 6 to 12, so the pace and the length of each activity match what that age can hold.
Can I stay and watch?
Yes. What we are after is your child changing through taekwondo, and that change runs deeper when a parent is part of it. Watching is where that starts.
How long before we see a difference?
It varies by child and we will not promise you a date. What parents most often mention first is confidence, and many say they noticed it within the first few weeks.
